The Junior Section of Calder Valley Fell Runners Club has been established to provide local young people of all backgrounds and levels of achievement with a happy and rewarding sporting experience in a caring, safe environment. It is hoped that this will enable each young person to realise their potential and encourage them to develop the knowledge, skills and motivation to pursue a successful sporting career and lead a happy, healthy life.
Our coaching style is informed by three simple principles:
- Children come first – winning comes second.
- Sport should be fun.
- Remember to reward effort as well as achievement.
It is intended that the junior section be open to everyone between the ages of 6 and 18; from those who wish to seek to keep fit and have fun to those who wish to compete at the highest level. In this context the Tuesday evening training sessions will be structured to enable all levels of attainment to develop their suppleness, skill, speed, stamina and strength.
Fees will be £7 per year, which will entitle the member to represent the club at races and will entitle them to attend each training session free. Tuesday evening training sessions will be £1 for each session for non-members. When your child first comes to the club they will need to pay £1 a week for 4 weeks of a probation period to see if they like fell running and to makes sure they are behaving. If they are keen to join it will the be £5. The membership year runs from a full school year (Sept to July) If your child was a member previously can you please contact Andy to see if there’s space for them to return as often the juniors are full and there might be a waiting list. Juniors isn’t on during any of the school holidays to give the coaches a real and also the juniors.
